Default Most common parts to replace on a firearm...?

I've been looking to buy a few spare parts for my weapons, frankly may not be needed but it never hurts to have them, but, to avoid wasting money, (nobody needs 100 pairs of butt-screws) what are the most common parts to replace on a handgun or rifle?
    Revolver, bolt-action, semi-auto, etc.

for what weapons specifically? it'd be a really long list, otherwise... all the different platforms vary too much.

    Well:

    AK-clones
    SKS (any, or yugos)
    Mosin Nagant M91/30
    Ruger P89
    Raven P/MP-25

And I guess I could make an addendum, what parts have a tendency to break as well, not for normal firing wear?

You can't go wrong with spare springs. Maybe firing pins and extractors. Not sure, just throwing some ideas out there. Magazine catch on some firearms are more prone to wear.

Get yourself an AR-15 repair kit...that has most everything you need and will give you an idea for other firearms as well.

Don't forget spare parts for magazine (or just spare magazines). I've had more magazines fail on me than any firearm part.

Stupid question please? Do you buy the repair kit for your brand only, or are they interchangeable with most brands?

99% of ARs are 100% compatible.

i made those stats up, but they're gonna be pretty close.

Statistics prove that 87% of all statistics are made up.

    Thanks for the answer.

I can tell you right now that the parts that need replacing the most are typically the sear, main spring, recoil spring (for those firearms with one), hammer, trigger and firing pin. Generally think of the parts in your particular firearm that are stretched, compressed, bent, are struck or rubbed when you fire the weapon. Springs are usually the first part that breaks or wears out and needs replacing. I try and keep a good supply of a variety of springs in my shop. The sear also tends to be a part that wears because it takes a heck of a beating during operation as well as the firing pin.

lol...you are both correct. Some ARs make rifles that only their parts will be compatable...mostly rumors though, I've never had a first hand experience from parts not being compatable (except for trigger parts and bolts from M-16/M-4 to AR-15 because of the sear block for auto parts and the bolt carrier cut-outs).

I've got a co-worker who deals in firearm parts...he can't say anything good about Olympic Arms because he says their uppers and lowers aren't compatible with other rifles (don't know how true this is though, this is the only time I've ever heard of this with Oly Arms). So I try to take this kind of stuff with a grain of salt. Everyone's got their qwirks...

Just avoid the CTD AR-15 parts...bought me some replacement fireing pins from them all all of them were out of spec. Get a Rock River Arms or Bushmaster firearms repair kit. Everything in their kits should work fine in 99% of all ARs.
