    Default Ak-47s should be illegal

This title is to a letter that was published in today's Medford Tribune. I hope I can quote it here:

"I have noticed a number of times in the last few months that gun dealers are allowed to advertise ak-47s for sale for approximately $400 to $595.
"Have you folks at the Tribune lost your minds? Or, is it an oversight by the advertising department? As we all know, an AK-47 is a 'killing machine' and nothing else! Gun dealers should be prohibited from selling them and should have to divulge where they get them from!
"As a veteran of the Korean War, I'm very much aware the damage this weapon can do. It's not used for hunting deer, elk or any other game animal that can be legally hunted. Most of the people that get their hands on this weapon of mass destruction are crooks, bankrobbers, etc., and the police department is totally outgunned by these criminals. I can't understand why anyone would want to own one, even a collector of guns!"
    R."Andy" Anderson, Phoenix

Does any body see the lies and smears in this? He acts like these guns are being smuggled into America. He doesn't seem to know or care that each sale has to go through the BATFE and the State Police. He doesn't know that AKs have a relatively "pip-squeak" caliber. He doesn't know about the modern weapons that the police have. I think that he crawled out from under a rock in the Kalifornia Soviet Socialist Republik and came here to Kalifornicate Oregon. Jerks like this we don't need! Let him go back to the totalitarian regime he left and leave us with our Constitution! Long Live Freedom!

I'm sure he brought a musket to Korea rather than a Garand or Thompson. It's well known that US military firearms tickle the enemy into submission.

Frankly, I'd be curious to find out if this guy was within 1,000 mi. of Korea.

So my first question would be why a fellow from Phoenix is in a Medford paper.
Sounds like a planted letter to the editor to me. My dad is also a Korean vet and has no problem with the ownership of whatever one might want including a 50 cal. I would assume this guy would have a problem owning a fully hunting compatable Garand too or would he? Yet another misguided attemp to darken the views on legal ownership of guns by civilians/peasants. He must be related to Fienstien or Polosie.

Did North Korea even have any AKs in that war? The ceasefire took effect in 1953, the soviet union didn't even have enough AKs for their own troops by then.

Obviously he never shot one before. I personally have two and they are the most fun to shot, and never jam, ever. Yes you can hunt with them with a five round clip, why not. This guy is an idiot. When the s**t goes down I'm going to my Polish underfolder first. What up Cougfan2!!

Neither can I. I mean why would a collector of firearms want to own one of the most celebrated rifles in the world?

Also. I think Andy needs an update on what the right to bear arms if for. The animals aren't threatening our civil liberties (Until the dolphins rise up to take the land back from us!)

In respect to the 2nd Amendment I'd say the AK-47 is one of the rifles that best fits it's purpose.

Great comment Swaney.. Many a brother in arms, picked up an AK in 'nam' as it was very reliable, effective, and made "us" sound like them when we shoot at "them". Ammo was available and almost never jammed as the old m-16's did. But who know, it was the early 60's, almost can't remember myself.
Today many of my weapons are "Black" guns..

Phoenix is a small town just south of Medford about 15-20 miles.

Not necessarily California jerks, Oregon has it's own anti gun population, remember the gun show loophole ? Oregon is one of only 7 states that require background checks on all gun sales at gun shows (California, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Oregon, New York, Illinois and Colorado) voted on and passed by the good citizens of "Orygun".......

Saw that today - blogged it...

    http://fingolfen.blogspot.com/2009/1...ot-in-his.html

Most of the comments here are spot on... AK wasn't used in Korea - PPSh was to a limited extent... I honestly can't find one thing in that whole tirade of tripe that's accurate...

Seems to me like one of you Medford boys needs to write a follow up letter to the editor to set the record straight.
