Dear Senator Kline,
I am an Endowment member of the NRA and I do share you concern about bad guys getting guns.
However...
Please direct your energies and efforts directly at bad guys in a way that will be successful!
I would prefer to do it in a way that will work better than penalizing law abiding citizens, which for some odd reason truly escapes many elected officials such as yourself.
Gang members get their guns illegally by straw purchases, thefts, or trading guns for drugs The guys who do this are selling the guns to guys who cannot buy guns because they are convicted felons.

What they are doing is already illegal!

Start charging with the laws that are already available, and quit wasting your time and our money with more pointless legislation.

My questions are very simple for you to answer as they relate to your latest attempt at banning certain firearms. The answers are so logical, and based on fact that I, a lowly citizen such as myself can even answer them.
1. California has the strictest, and layered gun laws in the nation. Have they stopped bad guys from obtaining banned guns? No.
2. Have the plethora of gun laws stopped or reduced gun crime? No.
3. Have present gun laws prevented gun crime? No.
4. Will your new ban on certain firearms stop, and/or reduce gun crime? No.
5. Will your new ban on certain firearms have a negative effect on the State of Washington's economy? Yes! There are dozens of firearms businesses within the state that not only are related to these guns you wish to ban, there are in fact manufacturers of such firearms in Washington State. Therefore, your ban will not only eliminate thriving businesses from Washington State thus destroying hundreds of family wage jobs, your firearms bans will remove millions of dollars from Washington State's tax base. Is this what you want to be doing to your constituents in these tough economic times?
6. Will law-abiding citizens be burdened once again with additional firearms laws, bans, and their related costs that do nothing to stop bad guys from getting guns if they so choose? Yes.
You see your predictable knee jerk response to the latest tragedies in our communities will not stop bad guys from doing bad things with guns if they so choose.
Furthermore, your lack of knowledge about these firearms you wish to ban is glaring, and in fact embarrassing. That alone should give you pause as to what you are attempting to do, and how you are going about doing it.
Why in the world would you want to burden the majority of our citizens with more laws and gun bans that will do nothing, nothing at all to stop bad guys from getting guns?
Start charging the perpetrators, convicting them and sending them away for longer periods of time.

I added my own spin to it. Great letter

RE SB 6396

Senator Kline,

Due to your sponsorship of this bill and the illegal house to house searches by the County Sheriff to ensure "compliance" with this un-American and Neo-Marxist bill, I regret to inform you that you no longer have my support and I will be contributing $8,000 to your opponent campaign in the next election.

There will be heavy resistance to home searches of firearm collections and/or registration.

Study your history and see what happens when people no longer have arms to protect themselves. Poland is a good example. Watch the executions and rapes of women and children once the Jews could no longer protect themselves after the gun registration began and confiscation occurred before the round-ups.

If you think the US is "exempt" from the kind of atrocities the Nazis perpetrated and we as humans are above that, you are a fool.

Look at hurricane Katrina where people had their personal firearms taken only to be robbed and murdered by criminals who kept theirs.

Please direct your energies and efforts directly at bad guys in a way that will be successful!

Oh, and thanks for creating a new group of criminals out of law abiding citizens because we will not surrender our arms under any circumstances to you or any other tyrants that spit in the face of liberty and our individual God given rights.

Oh yeah, and message sent.

Thanks for those of you who provided links. Do I think it'll pass? No. Do I think it'd be enforced if it was? No. But like in 1994, it's time to vote with your feet.

Heres my letter...
Dear Mr. Kline,
For someone that is a member of the ACLU, you sure are selective about what liberties you feel people should have. I guess the 2nd amendment of the Constitution escapes you. Or the 4th amendment. What kind of student of the law would call for intrusions into our homes with inspections? Guess what, pal............not all Washingtonians are going to allow that. Its illegal.........therefore gun owners WILL be in the right to defend their homes against intrusion. I dont understand you elitists. Why are you so **** bent on making felons out of law-abiding citizens? While It is bubblegums like YOU that call for the early release of criminals, like the one that slaughtered officers in Lakewood? I, for one, think you know damn well that Severely limiting Washingtonians use of quote-unquote "assault weapons" will not lower crime...........................its the "never waste a crisis" opportunist mantra that you worshipers of Obama use to chisel away at Americans rights, until the Constitution is just a list of 'good ideas', instead of the law of the land. The Lakewood killings didnt involve an 'assault rifle'. There have been murders down here in Vancouver involving knives. Wanna ban them? How can an educated person like you look in the mirror and feel good about doing all you can to circumvent the 2nd and 4th amendments, taking away rights Washingtonians have had for years? You are probably a student of the idea that rights are granted by man, not by God...am I right? Sorry, pal. You dont get to decide how free I am. You dont get to decide if I can take my rifle out to the woods as I have been doing for years peacefully and legally with my kids for target shooting. How bubbleguming dare you. And yes, I am using strong language. I think you need to know how angry the citizens are, me being one of them. We arent going to let you do it. You are also not going to force people to move from the state if they want to keep their rights. We were here first. Why should we leave? You need to leave. And contributing all the money we can to your opponent in the next election can do that. We KNEW this was going to come down the filth-laden pike from Olympia after the officer killings. To be such a low-life cretin as to be utterly predictable in your bill writing is pretty pathetic, isnt it? Again, maybe you can explain this for me. WHY DOES A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION NOT FULLY SUPPORT THE RIGHTS OF AMERICANS TO PURCHASE, KEEP,USE, AND ENJOY THEIR ARMS? I thought the ACLU was a gaurdian of the constitution. Oh yea...I forgot. They are not. Their founder was a socialist.

I received three responses from my three all within 30 minutes of sending mine. Only one raised the issue of a violent society, but all three supported citizens' rights and were strongly behind taking a stand against the Senate Bill.

My position was not specifically the provisions of the assault weapon issues, but the definitions that would render, well, all of us criminals as well as the risk of 4th amendment violation. Those are the pieces I have the hardest time with personally. All were very supportive and in agreement.

I'm surprised I received a response that quickly.

My wife has spent a lot of time with Inslee and his board (she's on the service academy selection committee every year with he and his aides in Nov/Dec) so I think I'll ask her to send him a "wtf?" note.

So I'm kinda sickly curious, suppose this passes and the sheriff comes to my door... what happens if I either don't let him in or pretend I'm not home? does this give him the right to break down my door?

Is this is what the jews felt like just before being sent off to the death camps.

Im serious...owners of these weapons and high capacitity magazines, who have PAID THIER HARD EARNED MONEY FOR THIER PROPERTY WHICH WAS ALREADY LEGAL should just refuse to relenquish their property. This is just as much an immoral property seizure as it is a violation of the 2nd amendment. SHOW THEM THE BUSINESS END OF YOUR PROPERTY. They want a war? Give it to them.

Im serious....lets just get on with it and give the elites what they deserve. Come get em pigs, youll wish you never tried.

You fail to mention......the Seattle area is the root of the problem. The big cities with the group-think commie contingent controls the electorate. THe same thing here in WhOregon. So, not only do we need to light up the politicians, we need to hammer home what the constitution garuntees to the progressive vermin in the cities. And hey, lets be honest.........................if war does break out, little pigs that make this happen are EASY to spot with their Obama,MoveOn.org,etc bumperstickers. Im just saying. Know the enemy, find the enemy, engage them.

Fight the good fight gentlemen.

That's what upsets me the most about the proposed bill, how the frick does something think it's ok for some jerkoff sheriff to invade my home once a year... that's freedom???!!!

I agree. Start the war.

Oh yea...and I would treat any 'inspection' as a violation of the Constitution and would use my 2nd amendment rights accordingly. You hearing me, .gov?

Is this is what the jews felt like just before being sent off to the death camps. ... YES

I think an important maybe overlooked aspect of the current Legislation ...
Resentment and Anger that will fuel further violence & unnecessary bloodshed towards Authority.
The supporters of this bill really need to know that "We The People" will only put up with so much.
You don't want to upset a bunch of already armed people who are on edge with the current administration.
You take away their right's and they will have nothing to loose.
These patriots will fight for their freedom & Liberty.
Didn't someone once write ... "Give me Liberty or Give me Death"
Not a good idea to keep pushin.
"You Keep on knockin on the Devils Door long enough, someone's eventually gona answer."
I wouldn't want to be the Sheriff put in charge with the Annual Inspections ... Yikes!!!

Kline picked the right time to submit his bill. I'm sure he's planning on leveraging the deaths of the police officers over the past two/three months to say, "We need to protect our police officers!"

Get them better armor, training, vehicles and guns. I'll support a tax hike for that. But the way he's proposing it, again, cuts to the quick of his little dark ACLU heart.

I have a question... with all the budget cuts from law enforcement departments, when are they gonna have time to do these searchs, another point is that are great Deputies are gonna be watching for in home gun violations of law abiding citizens and not out getting bad guys... man this is a stupid Bill

Looks like the elected criminals are hard at work again. What a f-ing joke these guys are. Cars kill more people then guns, what next ban cars. Well i guess the libs would beable to get there mass transit if they do that to.

Get a life libbys

WASHINGTON: "Assault Weapons" Ban Proposed in Olympia!
A group of four State Senators has introduced Senate Bill 6396, legislation that would bring California-style gun-control to the Northwest, and ultimately ban many semi-automatic firearms commonly owned by Washingtonians. This legislation would establish far-reaching restrictions on semi-automatic firearms (dubbing them "assault weapons") and ammunition magazines. SB6396 affects every firearm modified to conform with the expired Clinton Gun-Ban, plus many other semi-automatic firearms that have no lineage to those rifles or any military-style orientation whatsoever. Please contact both of your State Representatives and your State Senator TODAY at 800-562-6000 and politely urge them to oppose SB6396. More contact information for your legislators can be found here.

Legislation Introduced to Attack Gun Shows in Washington
State Representatives Brendan Williams (D-22) and Maralyn Chase (D-32) have introduced House Bill 2477, a bill that seeks to abolish the private transfer of firearms at gun shows, even between family and friends. HB2477 would hold law-abiding gun owners liable for the acts of criminals. Under this bill, if a firearm is privately transferred at a gun show to a person who is ineligible, even if the seller had no reason to suspect there was any problem the seller can be held liable for injury or death caused by the criminal use of that firearm. Liability would apply even if the injury wasn't caused by the unauthorized buyer. Please contact both of your State Representatives and your State Senator TODAY at 800-562-6000 and politely urge them to oppose HB2477. More contact information for your legislators can be found here.

Gun Ban Upheld by Snohomish County Council
The Snohomish County Council decided to uphold a 1970s-era prohibition on firearms in county parks. Councilmember John Koster introduced a proposal that would have overturned the county's ban and brought Snohomish County into compliance with state law but it failed due to a procedural motion. Please take the time to respectfully voice your disapproval with the County Council's actions. Also, please contact Councilmember Koster and thank him for his efforts to defeat this outdated, Draconian restriction. For more information on the proposed effect of the proposal and how to contact the City Council, please click here.

This is what happens when under cover closet communist come out of the closet and rear there ugly heads. When are Americans going to have enough of this .Evertime there is a gun ban proposed anywhere there should also be a petition to remove the people asking for the ban of such things. When is enough going to be enough. They may not get a total ban of all things in this bill but they will comprimise as to get part or most and be back for more until they are stopped or removed .The coolaid drinkers, the non owners, gun haters, closet communist, and Obama lovers out numbers gun owners. It is going to be an uphill battle and a hard fight to win.Did you know the laws in california now state that you can only purchase 1 box of ammo per day, and that is after you give your finger prints, copy of your drivers license and fill out a card that goes to the local police department all thanks to Arnold. It is like a background check for ammo there.Walmart in california stopped selling guns and ammo there. And dont even think of a ccw permit or even think about open carry there.

USe this link to tell your state senator that you oppose the bill. Please be courteous

I just thought I'd bring this back to the front so people won't have to wade through so much other "stuff" to get to the most important point. Ranting and raving is not going to do much to the immediate cause of getting these bills killed before they gain any traction. Generally it just proves that you're not going to vote for them anyways so why should they care.

I sent letters to my reps and let them know that I'm a life long Democrat and this is a very concerning piece of legislation that needs to be stopped immediately.

There are lots of bills introduced every year that are a load of pundit crap that never have the intention of becoming a law, the originators just want to be able to point to it as "their idea."

State bill 6396
and House bill 2477

just need to be killed so we can go back to the good ol' days of pMags for $10 and ammo on the shelves of bi-mart...wow those were a great 4 months.

Eddie

That's true and I think part of the reason for introducing this egrigious assult on the 2nd and 4th amendments is to distract us while they sneakily pass HB 2477 and HB 2264.

Hope everyone read these bills and wrote their State Representatives opposing these attacks on private gun sales as well.

Everyone;
Find you own WA State Legislators here and oppose HB 2477, HB 2264, as well as SB 6396.

All one really needs to do is fill out the Legislator's email form, check Oppose, and write a single sentence like, "Please oppose House Bill 2477." Threats and explanations carry no more weight than does "oppose".
