I've looked into some laserscopes and I'm wondering whether the programming shtick is worth it, or how greatly would it generally affect the hunting style?
Also I narrowed down to Burris or Bushnell brands but please post here if you've had another brand scope that worked well.
I don't think that they have bridged the technology gap just yet. For example, warrantee on the Burris is 3 years on the electronics/laser and forever on everything else. If the laser craps out, you have a very expensive scope that doesn't have range marker dots or a laser. I left Nikon years ago when they wouldn't service one of their scopes. I sent it back to them Registered Mail and told them to keep the POS. I have been very happy with a Leica 900 scan laser for about eight years now and got a Leupold CDS scope last year that I'm still enjoying.
The nice thing about separate rangefinders is they can be sent in for repair if necessary and you still have a scope. You can also range different targets without having to move your rifle from the first target.
I had the Burris Eliminator for a while. Fantastic scope overall. It works just as advertised and the weight is only slightly more than most higher end optics. I managed to get a couple of readings with it over 800 yards on stumps. Not sure if Wholesale Sports is in DFW, but I know the local one carries it. Worth playing with, if you can find one to fondle. It is on my short list of scopes to consider on my new AR build.
