Thread: Type of primer used in Ammo

How can you tell by looking if Ammo is Berdan, or Boxer primed..........

Boxer primed is std. US made ammo. It has only ONE flash hole on the inside center of the spent case.
The Berdan primed ammo, mostly foreign military ammo, has 2 smaller flash holes that are NOT centered. Thus your std reloading depriming die will not work.

I was wondering if you can tell on loaded ammunition,But firing one and inspecting it works also.

IIRC, the diameters are different. With a good eye and a set of
calipers you should be able to determine primer type from
loaded ammo.
